Honor. Courage. Commitment.
“We first met in sixth grade at our beloved Cascia Hall and dated for about four days,” Rebecca laughs. Though it didn’t work out in middle school, Becky and Ryan were reunited years later through a mutual friend. The two got together at a local Tulsa pub to discuss law school -- Becky was planning to go to Notre Dame Law School, Ryan was about to graduate and serve in the Marines-- and before the night was over, they were an item. The proposal came six months later as Becky was preparing to leave for South Bend and Ryan for Quantico. The couple had planned a trail run, so Ryan spent the morning putting up signs along the route and leaving flowers and a note at the spot where he would pop the question. As the two journeyed along the trail, Becky was completely unsuspecting -- she thought Ryan was just doing something nice to send her off. “It was the perfect proposal,” Becky remembers. “His note said that he had a question for me and when I turned around after reading it, he was on one knee and asking me to marry him.”
Shortly after, Ryan started his legal career as an Officer in the United States Marine Corps. During Rebecca's first grueling years of law school, Ryan was prosecuting criminal courts-martial as a young prosecutor and drafting wills/trusts for deploying Marines. "It was very busy for a young marriage, but we always made time to put away the books and notepads for one hour every night for dinner and a drive to Golden Spoon frozen yogurt," Ryan recalls. "While it was an honor to deploy to Afghanistan with a Marine Corps infantry battalion, it was tough leaving Becky, I had to miss her law school graduation and I couldn't support her while she was taking the Bar examination." When he returned home, Rebecca was a lawyer and they dreamed that one day when they were experienced and ready, they would start a law firm together. Although it took many years, Heatherman Law, PLLC is the realization of that dream. "It is the culmination of our life's work, we take it and our clients very seriously, we treasure every moment and every client," says Rebecca. Ryan agrees, "I have spent so much of my career in trials, litigating before juries, and I enjoy it and will continue to do it, but there is something magic about Estate Planning. Giving people the peace of mind to know that they are squared away with the highest quality legal support is extremely satisfying."
